At last, Health Department in Kashmir has taken a decision , even if belatedly, to depute doctors to rural areas who otherwise supposed to be working there are in reality serving in hospitals of Srinagar city and other major towns . This is absolutely unwarranted and intriguing as to how these doctors do ‘manage’ their duties in comfort zones of cities although their rural tenure is in un-authorised manner recorded in their service files.
Huge shortfall of doctors in peripheral areas is causing considerable hardships to people in rural and hilly areas who otherwise facing other difficulties in comparison to cities should be looked after on priority in matters of providing health related facilities. On the one hand, alternate private substitutes are rarely available and if there are any, most of them are not qualified hence in the absence of doctors in these areas from the Health Department , the people , the patients etc are forced to move to cities. Please just not issue formal orders but it must be seen the same are meticulously implemented.
