‘Excelsior’, a few days back, in these very columns, had strongly advocated for an extension of the validity of the Central Government’s ‘Market Intervention Scheme ‘ for purchasing apples from apple growers of Kashmir from December 31 by a few months or the last date of such purchases whichever was later to provide succour and relief to the apple growers in Kashmir who had suffered on account of vagaries of weather and threats from militants. The Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare in order to provide major relief to the apple growers of Kashmir, has extended the validity of the scheme which was otherwise launched in September 2019 as one time relief, till March 31, 2020. This was the stand of the Horticulture Department of Jammu and Kashmir Government too. With this extension, large number of apple farmers were going to be benefitted.
