Major tragedy averted in Jammu Mail

JAMMU, May 13: A major tragedy was averted in the general coach of Jammu Mail this evening with the timely detection of fire.
Sources in General Railway Police (GRP) said that sudden fire broke out in one corner of the general coach of Jammu Mail when it was on scheduled halt at Hiranagar Railway Station this evening. On witnessing smoke, the passengers started rushing out of the train in panic.
The GRP personnel led by DySP Atul Sharma under the supervision of SP GRP, Shiv Kumar Sharma immediately swung into action and got the fire doused and prevented the flames from spreading. Later, the train left for its destination.
The fire reportedly broke out due to the carelessness of a passenger, who threw the lit cigarette inside the train in order to avoid getting noticed for smoking by the co-passengers as well as TTE (Traveling Ticket Examiner), GRP sources said. However, the erring passenger could not be identified.
With the timely detection of fire, a major tragedy was averted in the general coach of the train, sources said.
