Transporters discuss demands

JAMMU, Mar 22: A meeting of All J&K Transporters Joint Action Committee Jammu was held under the presidentship of Harsis Singh Kranti and Vinod Sawnhey.
The meeting expressed grief and concern over total neglect by the State Government over the plight of the transporters. The JAC members condemned over-loading in carriage vehicles especially in trucks.
Harsis Singh Kranti while appealing the State Government to ensure proper checking on the menace of over-loading in trucks on different routes of the State also demanded enhancement of carriage charges as per prevailing inflation in the country with special reference to Jammu and Kashmir as at present it was very difficult for transporters to run and maintain their vehicles.
He also demanded complete abolition of contractual system in the trade and stated that Contractualism and Thekedari has further added to the sufferings of genuine transporters as lowest rates are being provided to the transporters for utilizing their services.
Various other demands relating to transporters were also highlighted in the meeting and the Government urged to mitigate the same.
Others present in the meeting included Har Mohinder Singh, Gajan Singh, Gurtek Singh, Mohd Iqbal, Jeet Singh, Darshan Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Kuldeep Singh etc.
