JAMMU, Mar 22: Police today foiled the protest march of PoK displaced persons to Civil Secretariat here.
Carrying placards and banners in their hands, protesting PoK displaced people gathered at Press Club and raised anti- Government slogans. The protesting people in the shape of rally started moving towards Civil Secretariat, but the heavy deployment of police foiled their protest march.
As the police resisted the protesting people from marching towards Secretariat, the displaced people sat on road and started protest in a peaceful manner. They raised anti- Government slogans for its callous attitude towards reddressel to their demands.
Addressing the gathering, Capt ( Retd) Yudhvir Singh, president, PoK Refugee Front said that the Government is least concerned about the redressel of their demands and was compelling them to adopt agitational path. He said PoK displaced people are in trouble and facing hardships for the past so many years, but the Government was not making any concrete policy for them.
He demanded 24 seats for PoK refugees reserved, reservation for their children in education and employment policies. He said that the Government should make a policy for the unemployed PoK refugees’ children for their adjustment in the Government Departments and also Backward Class status to them.
Thousands of non-camp refugees have been registered till date but after the passage of so many years their problems have not been solved, leading to hardships, he added.
Mounting a scathing attack on the State Government, Mr Singh said it has always become a stumbling block in reddressal of their plight and failed in providing them a comprehensive one-time settlement package.
He added that the front will continue its protests in a peaceful manner and if their demands were not redressed in time, it would resort to agitational path.
