The realisation

Prof A N Sadhu
The realisation is a process of acknowledging a phenomenon, a situation or an event in its real and objective content so that an element of subjectivity does not impact the assessment of that phenomenon, situation or the event. As soon as the realisation dawns on the assessor, he is on smooth march towards reaching the goal, he has set before himself. Doing right things at the right time manifests the man’s understanding of the concept of realization and on the contrary, doing right things at the right time and wrong things at the right time reveals the lack of this understanding. It needs to be clearly understood that a process of realiation does not have only a psychological or spiritual dimension, even though these are very important, it has physical, social, moral  and environmental dimensions as well. Thus the need for realization arises in all these cases. It is not unusual to recollect many a situation where failure of objective realization led to undesirable results and on the contrary, in the wake of proper realization, the results turned out to be desirable with long run positive effects. Such situations as demand reasonably accurate realization can arise at individual, family, community and at larger societal level and right or wrong realization of these produce corresponding consequences on a lasting basis. A small mistake may cause an irreversible damage. Psychologically, the process of realization  demands of a person to be positive minded, rational thinking and having firm faith that he thinks right. It is usually held that man’s relationship with universe is based on the law of attraction implying that the universe returns to man what he wishes if, of course, the wish is positive.
Psychic impulses are inherent in a human being and can be both positive and negative as also powerful enough to drive one in either way. Many a time some normal humans fall into depression for no visible reason. It is persistent negative thoughts which drive them to this State of affairs. Humans need to realise that a positive frame of mind will always keep them going even when they are faced with difficult situations. Harbouring fear and pessimism does not offer any solution to the problems   or any resolution to the conflicts, it instead, compounds and deepens the fear casting a man into an impregnable cage which results into depression and  helplessness. Realisation that everything is achievable distances man from negative thoughts and leaves him happy and contented even when what he achieves falls far short of his expectations. Such men remain  thankful for what they get and ever aspire for more. It is universally accepted that law of attraction responds to positive thoughts positively and negative thoughts negatively implying thereby that men must realise that thinking the right way holds key to success.
A man’s journey begins from the day he is born till the death causes a pause in this journey to be resumed thereafter to reach the ultimate destination of getting integrated with the universe, of which he is a part. Realisation of this fact lifts up the man spiritually and morally. In his  long journey to reach the  ultimate destination, man passes through different stages and at each stage is confronted with a formidable challenge to keep his rightful journey on uninterruptedly and to assess rationally himself and his contemporaries, as substantial contributors to that situation. It is immaterial to which faith you subscribe; the goal is only one of recognising that we are all same and within each one of us  lives the universe and each one of us is the universe. The process of realization is very intense and would demand of mortal humans to take guard while assessing a situation and interpreting it.
The realisation, as a concept, is real, comprehensible and practical but as an achieveable instrument, it demands deep understanding of basic essence of life at personal level and then in relation to society and more particularly in relation to one’s immediate neighbourhood and community environment. That I am right and everyone else is wrong is the first stumbling block in recognising the essence of realisation and persons unmindful of this cannot serve. Receptivity is a great source of conditioning of one’s thought process and modulating it to the timely requirements. Inflexible attitude weaves a cobweb around man which blurs both audio and visual perceptions and seriously handicaps the rational thought process. Ordinary humans are so engrossed into their day to day affairs that they hardly feel the necessity of getting together and questioning the existing doctrines. It is, however,  a realisation on their part to remain involved in their affairs and seek to sail through their problems. The responsibility, in the real situation, therefore, falls back on the social and religious drivers to realise objectively the path on which they drive their followers. The followers should, in return, realise that these social and religious drivers have chosen to serve the society at a great personal cost and they deserve their attention and respect.
History is replete with examples showing that darker and brighter periods have followed each other in a cyclical manner. Building the morale in distressed conditions is as important as obtaining an economic reprieve, as the communities who take pride in their inherent strengthes emerge winners in all situations, howsoever hard these may be. Communities suffering from deprivation of normal living conditions pass through agonising experiences on all fronts. Family relations, social and cultural norms language and identity credentials come under stress and to hold on to the richest traditions of the fold demands that the leadership address these concerns seriously and honestly. For the leadership of such a community or such a section of population it becomes obligatory to rise to the occasion and rise in time to stall the process of deviation and keep their flock together and on tract.
Time does not wait. It is the most silent and swift escaper. Yesterday goes into history and tomorrow is unborn; what belongs to you is your today and if you fail to optimise its use by doing the right things, it will always be too late. Birds of a  feather fly together to safeguard their survival. It should apply to communities as well. As long as a community remains united it stands as a solid rock and can face any tornado to stand unshaken and firm. To forge unity in the rank and file, the role of leadership is called to test. Leaders are not the masters, they are the guides to show the path on convincing explanations. Everybody is within his rights to  lead his people but every leader is not within his rights to showcase his stand as the best and superior. It is better left to people to judge. Every leader emerges out of necessity and every leader expectedly is genuinely interested to serve  his people. The wisdom, therefore, demands that leaders sit together, debate the issues facing the people, narrow down the areas of disagreement and forge some homogeneity in thier views, strengthen each other to strengthen the community. Wider and larger disagreements among the leaders tend to divide  the community and divided we fall is a lesson long taught and learned. Let no community be ever faced with bankruptcy of such leaders who carry people of all shades along and steer their communities through difficult times.  It is here the realization of right and wrong should dawn on leaders so that they develop the courage and vision of shaping the destiny of the communities. Resolutions are brought about in flexibility than in rigidity implying that a leader should be adept in the balancing act.
Not realizing the need of the hour has a serious negative fallout. Losing the direction at the crucial stages of history is fraught with lasting disadvantages to such communities. No community should ignore its foremost duty of preserving its identity and strengthening it further. An identity is like a fabric whose  threads should never be allowed to loose. A leader to handle these formidable challenges has to be a preacher, philosopher, friend and guide and hold on to his people friendly views and understandings in a consistent manner. Feel the pulse of the audience and speak their language to make them understand that you are their genuine sympathizer. It is said, “Always have a successful exit than a favourable entrnace because what matters is not being clapped when we arrive but being remembered when we leave”
