Provide 8 Assembly seats to DPs of PoK: SAD

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Jan 9: Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has urged upon the Government to provide at least 8 Assembly seats out of 24, to the Displaced Persons (DPs) from PoK.
In a meeting of the SAD held at party office Jammu under the chairmanship of Jethadar Mohinder Singh, Party president, the members discussed various issues confronting the community. The recent statement of the Govt on delimitation was viewed seriously as Party has been advocating since long that out of 24 Assembly seats kept reserved for the PoK, nearly 8 seats will be provided to the displaced population from PoK.
It is evident that Sikh community has been denied their political rights since last 70 years. Although the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir had reserved 2 seats for Sikh community each from Jammu and Kashmir Division in State Legislature, it is once again stressed upon the JK Union Territory dispensation to consider this demand of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) on priority and keep minimum eight seats reserved for the displaced people settled in UT of J&K who can elect their representative so that their problems and long pending issues are highlighted at proper forum for their ultimate redressal.
It was also impressed on the Govt to safeguard the land rights and Govt jobs for the resident of the UT and necessary notifications may be issued.
The recent episode of Nankana Sahib have shattered the confidence of the minorities and has exposed the real face of Pakistan as on one side, they have opened the Kartarpur corridor to win the confidence of Sikh masses but on other hand they have desecrated the holy Shrine of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It was appealed to Pak Govt that stern actions should be taken against the culprits so that nobody could dare to repeat such an incident in future and in safe guard the interests of minorities in Pakistan.
Among others who attended the meeting included, Surinder Singh Advocate, Suchwant Singh, Manjit Singh, Baboo Singh and Harbans Singh.
