JAMMU, Mar 23: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today said the Government has set up a panel of educationists to give suggestions for framing an education policy for the State.
Chand, who also holds the charge of School Education Department, was replying to discussion on grants in the Legislative Assembly today.
The minister said during the period of 2001-2011, literacy rate in the State increased from 55.50 per cent to 68.74 per cent and the gap between the rural and urban literacy rate also came down considerably.
The female literacy also went up from 43.0 per cent in 2001 to 58.01 per cent in 2011, which is an increase of 15 per cent and is above national average, he said.
Chand said as for now, the State has no specific education policy and directions have been given to constitute a committee to give recommendations in this regard.
While more schools are being set up, the Government is recruiting more teachers to meet the growing requirements, he said. (AGENCIES)
