SRINAGAR, Jan 11: A new born baby died due to the alleged medical negligence at Sheikh UlAalam private hospital in Srinagar today.
As per the family members of the infant, who was born on January 10 and breathed his last today at the hospital and cause of death was stated to be cardiac arrest as per the doctors.
The mother of the infant alleged that there was no heating facility in hospital due to which the baby went into hypothermia leading to his death.
“After I was brought out of the theater, I was kept in the recovery room, I don’t know anything as I was under the influence of anaesthesia. What had happened in the meanwhile, we were shifted out of the room, where there was no constant heating facility,” said Nighat Manzoor, mother of the infant.
She alleged that when she complained about the lack of heating in the room, she was told to arrange a heating blower of her own. “I asked the staff to see if the baby was being fed correctly, the nurses told me that we are not trained for that; even when I asked them for the heating, to keep my baby warm, they asked me to arrange a blower on my own. What was the fun of being at the hospital then,” she asked.
Nighat was the patient of Dr Naseer at the hospital, and Dr Pervaiz, when he, as per her, examined the infant, pronounced him dead-citing cardiac arrest.
“We are not being given the discharge certificate nor are they telling us the actual cause of death,” she said.
Dr Pervaiz at the hospital said that the baby died due to cardio-respiratory arrest. He, however, did not respond to the allegation of the medical negligence.
