KATHUA, Jan 14: Daily wage workers of Irrigation and PHE Departments today staged a dharna at Mandli (Billawar) to lodge strong protest against non-payment of wages for the last over 65 months.
The protestors were led by Isher Das Sangra, president of Low Paid Employees Federation (LPEF) Billawar. While addressing the protesting daily wagers, Sangra said due to non-payment of wages the workers and their families are facing starvation.
He said that the price of essentialities of life are rapidly becoming dearer day by day due to anti people and anti working policies of exploiting ruling classes of all hues and shades and by not paying the workers their wages every month in time the authorities concerned are aggravating the plight of poorly paid workers.
The speakers also raised demands for immediate regularization of the services of those who are due for the same, payment of wages to the workers every month in future. The speakers also raised the issue that some 15/16 workers are not brought to online system as such they continue to get wage at a paltry rate of Rs 500 per month thus they made a strong plea to the authorities to bring all of them under online Bio metric system to pay them wage at par with other daily wage workers i.e Rs 6700 month in over to save them from undue hardships.
Later they met in deputation with the Assistant Executive Engineers of Irrigation and PHE Department who gave assurance to pay one-month of wage to the workers on the eve of Lohri festival and assured to forward rest of their of demands to the higher authorities for sympathetic consideration soon.
