NEW DELHI, Mar 24: Shahnaz Husain, who pioneered and led a herbal beauty movement in India and has succeeded in establishing a name for herself abroad has now launched beauty product for cancer affected patients, which she plans to distribute it for free in various cancer hospitals in the country.
“The Chemoline range has already been launched. We first introduced it at Selfridges, the famous London store. Our long experience of treating skin and hair problems with Ayurvedic remedies gave us the idea and the confidence to formulate products that alleviate the effects of chemotherapy and radiation on the skin and hair,” Shahnaz told in an interview.
The line of Husain’s product consists of Chemoline Scalp tonic and Chemoline skin cream for the skin and hair care needs of those undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.
“Chemoline” is specially designed to help alleviate the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation, says the cosmetologist.
According to Shahnaz the product works in a unique way supporting the natural healing process of a cancer patient.
“The products contain plant ingredients and oils that are known to help problems like hair loss, scalp and skin sensitivity, dry skin, extreme moisture depletion, due to multiplication of cells. They support the body’s natural healing processes and restore health to the skin and hair,” says Shahnaz.
Shahnaz Husain Group operates in more than 100 countries all over the world including India, where it has a chain of franchise salons, spas, beauty institutes and direct product distributors.
Chemoline’s success surfaced when a woman in New York who suffered from a rare cancer in the heart wrote to Husain.
“I was diagnosed with cancer and it sounded like a life sentence of chemotherapy, radiation an a lot of treatment. I had lots of skin problems, irritation and frustration but a lot of support from the medical field and staff made the journey easier. At staff member at the Research facility of the hospital recommended the use of Chemoline skin cream and Scalp Tonic.
“I applied the skin care daily until I got a compliment that my skin looks healthy despite the procedures I go through. Up till now I apply the product daily. It works, it refreshes my drying skin and it helps me realize that there is hope when you believe,” she wrote.
In India Shahnaz says she plans to distribute these products for free of cost to cancer hospitals. “The plan to distribute these products free of cost to cancer hospitals is still in the pipeline but I have already zeroed in on various hospitals across India,” says Husain.
The cosmetologist lists of hospitals which she says have evinced interest and may distribute the product free of cost to its patients. Among them are Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research, Dharamshila Cancer Hospital, Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital in New Delhi, The Superintendent, M N J Cancer Hospital and Research Institute in Hyderabad, Radium Institute in Patna, Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology in Bangalore, Gujarat Cancer Hospital and Research Institute in Ahmedabad, Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital in Mumbai, Chittaranjan Cancer Hospital in Kolkata and Bernard Institute of Radiology & Cancer, Govt. General Hospital , Cancer Institute (W I A) in Chennai.
Shahnaz also plans to supply the Chemoline products for skin and hair care to top Cancer hospitals all over the world. This product claims Shahnaz “can also be used by people who are suffering from liver related problems too for just Rs 499 each for the skin cream and the hair tonic.”
Shahnaz Husain has also announced the launch of “Nari Vikas Movement” for upliftment of rural women giving them employment opportunities by educating them in various fields to make them financially independent.
She has allotted an amount of Rs 11 crores from her personal funds for empowering women in 11 villages that she plans to adopt immediately.
“I have not decided on the villages to be adopted. We are in discussion with the concerned Ministry to adopt the villages which are most backward and need our immediate attention. Our idea is to help women towards financial independence and self-reliance. As already mentioned, we plan to provide opportunities for education and vocational training.
“There is also potential for income generation in other fields which are related to Ayurveda, like growing of herbs and flowers, development of natural fertilizers, extraction of herbs and oils, packaging, etc. We will be looking at such opportunities,” says Shahnaz.
Expanding the Shahnaz Husain brand in more than 100 countries right now is also in her agenda.
“We are expanding our footprints across the globe. We will be taking Ayurveda and Brand India to more countries within the next year. By 2015 we plan to expand our presence in major countries like USA, Canada, Kazakhstan and Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, South East Asia, New Zealand and other CIS countries including Russia, Belarus and Latvia.
“In fact, I am now going to Dubai to open another chain of franchise ventures there. I will also attend the Indian Achievers Forum Summit and receive their prestigious Glory of India Award for outstanding innovations and contribution to Ayurvedic beauty care,” says Husain.
Her company also plans to open treatment and de-stress centres along with spas in hospitals where people going through treatment can relax and rejuvenate themselves.
“We also plan to set up beauty schools globally to impart training on skin and hair problems with the powerful magic of herbs and plant power,” says Husain. (PTI)
