JAMMU, Mar 24: Socialistic Democratic Party (SDP), president Dr Darakhshan Andrabi today said that in view of the uncontrolled price hike, the monthly cash relief of the Kashmiri migrants be given reasonable hike.
Addressing press conference here today, Dr Darakhshan said that the uncertainty looms large over the future of displaced Kashmir Pandit community. They are leading miserable life in various parts of Jammu region and outside. She demanded that present cash relief being given to them by the Union Government was not sufficient in view of the price hike of not only essential but all other commodities, and held that their monthly cash relief be increased.
The SDP leader pointed out that the pain of being migrants is terrible for this educated and intellectual lot of Kashmiri society. She expressed that financial relief and sort of temporary arrangements of providing flats to these community members has nothing to do with their permanent settlement and the Government can not in any case project this all as a substitute for the permanent settlement of this community. Till now, the Government has proved failure in the settlement of these displaced community members of Kashmir society, she maintained.
Dr Darakhshan also stressed upon the Government to provide full quota of jobs to the members of this community as per PM’s package without any further delay. She also criticised the State Government especially the PDD authorities to impose heavy electricity charges on these migrants, temporarily being rehabilitated at Jagti town and said that Government must take reasonable measures in this regard. She said they have not migrated at their sweet will and circumstances have pushed them out from Valley. Therefore, it was responsibility of the Government to do justice with them and provide essential services being citizens of the State. Other SDP leaders, Sanjay Manhas and Kamaljeet Singh also spoke on the occasion.
