‘The Octave-Festival of North East’ in Jammu from today

JAMMU, Mar 24: North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, in collaboration with North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur, Border Security Force and J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages, Jammu, is organizing ‘The Octave-Festival of the North East’ at Jammu from March 25 to 27, 2013.
This was announced by Director, North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala, DS Saroya at a press conference held here today.
He informed that the Festival was introduced by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India to provide a right platform to the artistes and artisans of the North East region to project their rich cultural heritage.
He told the media persons that more than 250 folk artistes (100 women and 150 men) representing eight States of North-East namely: Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim will perform during the Festival and showcase the art forms like Bihu, Barat, Wangala, Biju, Thang-t, Solakia, War dance, Juju Jaja, Tamang Selo, etc.
“This mega-cultural event will be inaugurated by Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Narinder Nath Vohra at Hargobind Bhatnagar Stadium, BSF Campus, Paloura, Jammu on March 25, 2013 at 7 pm”, Saroya said, adding Raman Bhalla, Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture and Sajad Ahmad Kichloo, Minister of State Home, R&B, Tourism and Culture, Jammu & Kashmir will be the guests of honour.
In order to fulfill its objectives, North Zone Cultural Centre has organized a huge number of activities in the past and provided an excellent platform to the budding artistes in all the disciplines of art, the Director told media persons.
