Dog squad detects narcotics

JAMMU, Jan 21: With the expertise of dog squad, Nagrota Police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ arrested a trucker and his associate along with 300 kilograms of poppy straw on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
This was stated by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Tejinder Singh while interacting with media persons here today.
Divulging the details, SSP stated that a dog squad was deployed at Ban Toll Plaza for frisking duties after getting generic information that a truck bearing Punjab number is carrying narcotics from Kashmir.
“The squad comprised of ‘King & Blacky’ (Raja & Kali) indicated presence of narcotics in a truck bearing number PB07AF-4571″, SSP said, adding that the truck was subjected to further checking by unloading the boxes full of apples.
During unloading, the dog squad detected the boxes full of narcotics and these boxes were beneath the apple boxes, Singh informed.
It was the expertise of dog squad only followed by human efforts that could detect the 33 boxes of poppy straw weighing 300 kilograms from a total of 641 boxes of apples”, SSP said, adding that a police party headed by SHO Nagrota Mohammad Shokat and assisted by SI Ankuj Kumar under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Mohan Lal Sharma seized the consignment and arrested the driver and his associate.
SSP informed that the arrested persons were identified as Kuldeep Ram, son of Diyal Ram and Ravi Singh, son of Kashmir Singh, both residents of Jalandhar Punjab.
“A case under FIR Number 26/2020 under Section 8/15/29 has been registered against the arrested persons at Police Station Nagrota and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment and other persons involved in this illegal trade”, SSP asserted.
