No BDC Chairman invited to hoist flag on R-Day: Shafiq

JAMMU, Jan 22: Expressing his anguish and resentment over the attitude of Jammu Kashmir authorities with Panchayats, Shafiq Mir, chairman All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference siad that no newly elected Block Development Council (BDC) Chairman has been given a chance to hoist the national flag at the events being organized by the Government at the block/ tehsil  and district head quarters across Jammu and Kashmir union teritory on Republic Day.
Mir who is also Block Development Council, chairman from block Bafliaz of district Poonch said that his organization will take up this matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in near future saying that this attitude of  Govt authorities in Jammu and Kashmir is clear indicator of the  fact that Government officials doesn’t want empowerment of Panchayats in  of Jammu and Kashmir. Mir asked what was the meaning of so called protocol announced by the Government for BDC chairpersons when they have not been invited as chief guest in any of the Government organized Republic Day function in the entire Jammu and Kashmir.
It is pertinent to mention here that 310 Block Development Council chairpersons have been recently elected in Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory whose protocol is put equal to District Development Commissioner and equal to all  heads of the departments by the Government in papers. This announcement was made by Lt. Governor Jammu and Kashmir recently while meeting with the BDC chairpersons at Jammu.
Mir said that its humiliating that one side the Government announced that the protocol of BDC chairperson is equal to Deputy Commissioner  and HoD but in their respective tehsils and sub divisions the national flag will be hoisted by the SDM and Tehsildar.
“What is this protocol all about,” questions Mir. This is humiliation of an elected persons.”
Mir has appealed the Lt Governor Girish Chandra Murmu and Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir to look into the matter.
