JAMMU, Jan 25: S Balvinder Singh, social and RTI activist today said that despite the abolition of Toll Tax at Lakhanpur, there is no check in reduction of MRP on various goods from Government agencies.
Talking to reporters here, today along with Sharanjit Singh and Ayaz Ahmed Khan, Balwinder Singh said generally it is seen that most of the traders of cement, edible oil and other goods whose MRP should have been reduced with effect from January 1, 2020 after the announcement about the abolition of Toll Post was made by Government the consumers should have been provided with the benefits by reducing the price but this has not happened.
Singh appreciated the Legal Metrology Department whose team on January 15 raided the premises of CFA’s of M/S Ambuja Cement Ltd at Kunjwani, M/s ACC Ltd at Narwal and M/s JK Wall Putty at Trikuta Nagar Extension and imposed fine of Rs.50,000 on each company for not passing on the benefit of Rs 64 per bag of Cement weighing 50 kgs by lowering the MRP. The teams also inspected the company outlets of P Mark Edible oil at Ware House at Bikram Chowk, he added.
Balvinder Singh urged upon the UT Administration of JK and especially to LG Girish Chandra Murmu to kindly intervene & direct the Excise Department and other concerned departments to put it in public domain the comparative MRP of all the items before the abolition of Toll Tax and their reduced price MRP after the abolition of Toll Tax both in print and electronic media so that general public must know the actual benefit they are supposed to get after the Toll Tax abolition and the tax reduction price benefit of Rs 1500 crore must pass on to the ultimate consumers.
Singh also urged upon the Excise Department to constitute different teams for the inspection of various Godowns and retailers to put a check on them so that they should not deceive the consumers and pass on the cost reduction benefit to them as per actual. The teams must check whether the MRP has been reduced by the traders or not, he added.
