JAMMU, Jan 29: District Congress Committee, Kargil has demanded Union Terriory Headquarters on rotational basis at Leh and Kargil towns.
DCC general secretary, Kargil Zakir Hussain in a press statement here said that the Lieutenant Governor of UT Ladakh and his administration took several decisions of public importance unilaterally infringing the rights of the elected members of LAHDCs of Kargil and Leh districts and damaging the autonomy of these institutions.
Citing the establishment of Planning, Development and Monitoring Board of UT Ladakh, he said that this decision was taken by the UT administration with out consulting the main stake holders and this has undermined the powers of the LAHDCs and rendered them irrelevant. He added that this decision should be revoked and steps be taken to empower the LAHDCs of Kargil and Leh.
He further said that the order and advertisement of recruiment of Engineers for the 66 vacant posts in Ladakh should be revoked as this would create more unemployment in the region, if these posts are being filled by candidates from outside Ladakh. He also expressed surprise and resentment on distribution of vegetables on ration card basis. He asked what about the outsiders who doesn’t have ration cards or the people from the far off villages who doesn’t carry their cards with them on daily basis.
DCC leader said that the Joint Action Committee of Kargil was assured by the UT Ladakh administration that the Headquarter of the LG office would be established on 6 monthly rotational basis in Kargil and Leh districts. Instead of that now the officials from Kargil have to leave station and visit Leh every other day for meetings and consequently the public in Kargil are suffering immensely. He demanded that promise of rotation basis UT headquarters be fulfilled.
