Tributes paid to Major Som Nath

JAMMU, Jan 31: Rich tributes were paid to first Param Vir Chakra awardee Major Som Nath Sharma (Saviour of Kashmir) on his birth anniversary.
A function was organized by Kailakh Jyotish Avim Vedic Sansthan Trust to pay tributes to Major Sharma. President of the Trust Mahant Rohit Shastri while speaking highlighted the great role of Major Som Nath Sharma, who laid down his life while defending the Srinagar Airport from the attack of Kabali with the collaboration with Pakistan Army on November 3, 1947.
Shastri said Major Som Nath Sharma was born on 31st January 1923 in Kangra Himachal Pardesh.
He appealed to Lieutenant Governor to pay homage to the great personality by rechristening Jammu Airport before the name of Major Som Nath and declared holiday on January 31 on Major Sharma’s birthday.
Meanwhile, Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha (DBPS) today paid rich tribute to Major Som Nath Sharma on his birth anniversary in a function, held at Brahman Sabha, Parade. The programme was organised under chairmanship of Ved Parkash Sharma, President of DBPS and large number of people from different walks of life participated in the function.
President DBPS, President of Tawi Andolan Chander Mohan Sharma, Prominent social activist Ex DC, BS Jamwal, NMC President, Subash Shastri, Senior advocate, PC Sharma and BBDST General Secretary, Ramesh Sharma highlighted the role of Major Somnath Sharma who laid down his life while defending the Srinagar Airport.
