RS PURA, May 14: J&K Batwal Welfare Association today celebrated 2575th Jayanti of Lord Buddha, with great pomp and show at Chak Mohd Yar, here.
MLC and former chief secretary J&K State, BR Kundal was the chief guest, former minister and senior leader, NC, Ram Pal was the guest of honour while president JKBWA and Member, Schedule Caste Welfare and Development Advisory Board, J&K, Romesh Mottan presided over the function.
The program started with lighting of candle by the chief guest followed by Bhagwan Gautam Buddha Vandana by the followers of Gautam Buddha.
Prominent radio and television singer and party, Ved Prakash Lakhotra and Suman Lata presented a colourful cultural programme. Moreover, Monika Kaith, Miss Shavasti, Kasturi Lal Kaith and Lajju Ram Kaith presented poems and brief history of Bhagwan Buddha.
Congratulating the people on 2575th Bhagwan Gautam Buddha Jayanti, Kundal paid rich tributes to Bhagwan Buddha and released an amount of Rs 10 lakh for Bhagwan Buddha Community Hall at Chak Mohd Yar.
The MLC assured the Community to fulfill their other demands regarding construction of lanes and drains in second installment, adding that the State Government was committed for the upliftment of downtrodden Community (Batwals) of the State.
Mottan, chief of the Association said that Father of the Constitution, Dr BR Ambedkar was so much impressed by the philosophy and teachings of Bhagwan Buddha that he embraced Buddhism. He appealed the community to follow the teachings and the path shown by Bhagwan Buddha.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Ravi Kaith, Prithi Singh, Tarlok Mottan, Major Gurdass Sundha, Thoru Ram, Suresh Chanjotra and many others.
