JAMMU, Feb 5: The Jammu and Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) has urged upon the Lt Governor GC Murmu to review the reservation policy in J&K.
A six-members delegation of the JKSAC comprising Dev Saroop, Tarlok Singh Tara, Bhushan Sharma, Dawarka Nath and Roshan Lal , heads of districts units led by Gurdev Singh J&K UT president called upon Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu here today and urged upon to review the reservation policy of the Government which is totally biased and discriminatory in respect of wards of DP’s of 1947 from PoJK.
He was requested to make reduction in Pahari / EWS quota to provide at least 3% reservation to wards of DP’s as they also belong /reside in hilly/ backward areas, speak Pahari language and are educationally, economically weak & backward and are struggling for the same from the last more than six decades.
Gurdev Singh apprised Mr Murmu in detail about the various issues of DP’s of 1947 from PoJK concerning their full and final settlement. He told him that DP’s of 1947 from PoJK have not left their homes like Kashmiri migrants nearly because of fear and having certain adverse conditions but they were thrown out forcibly from their native areas at mid- night by the Pakistani Tribal’s abetted by Pakistan regular army. He was told that more than 40,000 peoples of all ages were brutally slaughtered. Women irrespective of their age were abducted, raped and ravished, beside their properties of millions of rupees were looted and destroyed. History bore testimony that the sacrifices made by DP’s delayed the advance of Pakistani Tribal’s and saved this part of Jammu and Kashmir. It was the great irony that DP’s have not been served justice by any of dispensation and are awaiting their settlement for the last seven decade.
He was also apprised that DP’s were remained neglected discriminated and deprived of their legitimate rehabilitation rights by the erstwhile State and Central Govts. He was told that DP’s have not been given adequate compensation for their left out properties in PoJK. No reservation/ employment package was given to their wards till date, no delimitation of their shares of 8 assembly seats was done and were deprived to represent their aspiration.
Lt Governor listened the delegation patiently and ensured that he will take adequate measures to resolve the same.
