Natrang to celebrate ‘World Theatre Day’

JAMMU, Mar 26 : Natrang Jammu is going to celebrate the ‘World Theatre Day in a big way with the dedicating a Natrang theatre festival featuring five plays.
This was informed here today by Natrang Director Balwant Thakur in a press conference held at Natrang Studio Theatre, Jammu.  Elaborating this celebrations of global event, Balwant Thakur said that to celebrate World Theatre Day-2013 in a big way and attract the global attention.
Natrang Jammu is organizing a five-day Natrang theatre festival commencing from March 27 at its Natrang Studio Theatre, Jammu.
At the very outset he said that World Theatre Day means a lot to Natrang as the whole world theatre community is looking at Natrang Jammu being an Internationally known theatre group to set examples for others.
Natrang pioneered to start organizing this day in Jammu in the year 1985 and is the only group in North India which is celebrating World Theatre day without any break since then. This year’s celebrations which will continue till March 31, will feature five plays and interestingly will feature plays by five different directors. Since these are world celebrations, Natrang has chosen to open the celebrations with one of the most intense theatrical presentation ‘Fandi’ written by Late  Shanker Shesh and directed by Mipham Otsal. This will be followed by internationally acclaimed Dogri play ‘Bawa Jitto’ written by Late Prof Ram Nath Shastri and directed by Balwant Thakur. Bawa Jitto will be staged on March, 28 at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu at 5.30 pm. On third day of the festival, Gursharan Singh play ‘Band Kamre’  will be staged under the direction of Neeraj Kant. The fourth play of the festival will feature Shlendra’s Hindi play ‘Soot Naa Kapas’ directed by Anil Tickoo. The festival will conclude with Sadat Hassan Manto’s Urdu play ‘Bemaar’ under the direction of Sumeet Sharma.
Others who accompanied Balwant Thakur and spoke included Anil Tickoo, Sumeet Sharma and Suraj Ganjoo. All appealed through media to join Natrang in this most important theatrical festivity.
