Police remand of Ban terror attack accused extended to 7 days

JAMMU, Feb 7: Court today extended Police remand of three Over Ground Workers (OGWs), who were arrested in connection with Ban Toll Plaza terrorist attack on January 31, in which 3 Pak militants of JeM outfit were gunned down.
These three OGWs from Pulwama, namely Sartaj Ahmed Mantoo, son of Firdous Ahmed Mantoo of Kisrigam, Kakapura, Asif Ahmed Malik son of Bashir Ahmed Malik of Qaziqund, Kakapura and Sameer Ahmed Dar son of Abdul Rashid of Kisrigam Kakapura, were produced before Special Court for seeking extension of remand.
The trio was arrested on January 31, 2020 in the case for the commission of offences under section 307/120-B/121/ 122/123/IPC, 7/25/26/27 Indian Arms Act, 16/18/ULA Act. On February 1,2020, all of them were remanded to police custody for a period of seven days, which was going to expire today.
3rd Additional Sessions Judge Jammu, Subash C Gupta, after carefully going through the CD file, observed that keeping in view the stage of investigation, submissions made by the Investigating officer of the case and the gravity of offences involved in the present matter, the Court was satisfied that further police remand of the accused was imperative.
“Therefore in view of the submissions made in the application, the accused are remanded to police custody for a period of seven days,” the Court ordered and also directed that the accused should be provided medical facilities, while they are in police custody during the currency of remand period.
