NEW DELHI: The Ayurveda institute Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday amid opposition by the Congress and All India Trinamool Congress.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Saugata Roy of the AITC said The Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda Bill, 2020 seeks to set up an Ayurveda institute in Jamnagar of Gujarat which has no legacy of Ayurveda.
”Instead, the institute should be set up in Delhi, Varanasi, Kerala or West Bengal which has glorious tradition of Ayurveda instead Jamnagar in Gujarat,” he said, opposing the introduction of the Bill.
Congress’ Shashi Tharoor opposed the introduction of the Bill said it violates the objective of providing training and research of Ayurveda in the country.
He said the Bill overlooked the legacy of Ayurveda in Kerala and demanded that before the introduction of the Bill, a debate should be held under Rule 272 (1) in the House.
Replying to them, Minister of State for Ayush Shripad Yasso Naik said this was the first institute in this series only and the Government will set up more after considering their proposals.
Later, the Bill was introduced via voice vote in the House.
