POONCH, Feb 15: A Govt school building is lying in shambles in Thera village of Mendhar sub division of district Poonch while authorities have turned a Nelson’s eye towards the plight of the students.
Established in 1916, about 104 years ago as Govt Primary School at village Thera in Mendhar, this school was upgraded to Middle standard in 2005. Out of the total 5 rooms, 3 have been declared as unsafe. The roll in the school is decreasing gradually as people do not want to send their children in the unsafe school. It is clear from the condition of the school that the future and life of the students studying here is at stake and they are compelled to take education.
Abid Hussain Shah, headmaster of the school told the Excelsior that it has been three years since he was posted here that this building was completely torn down. ” We have only two rooms, one has office and one classroom from 1st class to 8th class. It is our compulsion to make students sit. I have given this information to our higher officials but no reply has been received so far,” he added.
He said there is demand of the people of the area to upgrade this old school to the High School level. The locals narrated that today our country is talking about digital India, but this school is crying tears of plight. There is no drinking water in school, for water, we have to walk for miles. He urged upon the Lt Governor on behalf of school children to intervene and provide them relief.
SDM Mendhar, Dr Sahil Jandial when contacted said,” This matter has come to my notice, I have discussed with the Deputy CEO and asked for a report. The building will be repaired so that the students not face problems.”
