IGNOU Regional Centre Jammu organizes Convocation, awards degrees

JAMMU, Feb 17: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) organized its 33rd Convocation today at IGNOU Maidan Garhi, New Delhi Headquarters and simultaneously at the Regional Centres across the Country including Regional Centre at Jammu.
As many as 231573 students were declared qualified to receive Degrees/Diplomas in the Convocation across the country, who include 91586 students of Master Degree Programmes, 81395 students of Bachelor Degree programmes, 41257 students of Diploma programmes, 17253 students of Certificate programmes, 79 Ph D students and three M Phil students. All those students who have passed in December 2018 and June 2019 Term-End Examinations were declared eligible to receive their Degree/Diploma certificates in the Convocation.

In the Convocation function at Jammu, Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, was the chief guest and awarded Degree Certificates. A total of 10533 students from Regional Centre Jammu were declared eligible to receive Diplomas and Degree Certificates, out of which 4782 are Master Degree awardees, 5159 are Bachelor Degree awardees, 402 are of Diploma/ Post Graduate Diploma programmes and 190 learners are of six months duration Certificate programmes. Around 113 students of Post Graduate and Professional programmes who had submitted their consent online were awarded Degree/Diploma Certificates in the Convocation function at Jammu in person.
Hardeep Kour Bali of PG Diploma in Journalism & Mass Communication programme from Jammu centre was conferred with Gold Medal for her meritorious performance in the said programme across the country.
Prof Manoj K Dhar termed the IGNOU Convocation as an occasion of celebration of IGNOU’s achievements which is referred to as the People’s University accessible to all those far and wide who otherwise would have lost the opportunity to gain access to higher education, improve upon their qualification and increase the chances of employment. He urged the awardees that they have to translate their educational achievements to benefit the world and that they all have a collective responsibility to work for progress of the society and the country as a whole.
Regional Director I/c, Dr Vikram Singh, presented the Regional Centre Report and listed the initiatives that the University and the Regional Centre Jammu have taken to strengthen students support services network in the region. Dr Sandeep Gupta and Dr Asha Upadhyay, Assistant Regional Directors, hosted the Convocation function. Dara Singh, Section Officer, supervised financial aspects. S Tejinder Pal Singh, Deputy Registrar, presented the vote of thanks.
