UDHAMPUR, Feb 27: Up in arms against lackadaisical approach of the concerned authorities towards their demands, Safai Karamcharis of Udhampur Municipal Council today went on indefinite strike.
Under the banner of Akhil Bhartiya Safai Mazdoor Sangh, the agitating Safai Karamcharis assembled in front of the office of Municipal Committee Udhampur and held a protest demonstration in support of their long pending demands.
They were demanding no implementation of SRO 520 on them, uniform to all Safai Karmcharis within 15 days, jobs under SRO 43 cases, implementation of 7th Pay Commission and clearance of arrear of 2 ½ days salary to Safai Karmacharis, room for sitting of Safai Karmacharis in all committees, etc.
The protest was organized under the leadership of Girdhari Lal, District president, Kaka Husan Udhampur City President and David Sandhu, vice-president who said that the Urban Local Bodies had gave them written consent vide letter no. DOULB/2019/23495 dt.23-1-2019 on these six demands and had agreed that SRO 520 would not be implemented on Safai Karmacharis.
Even after one year, no demand has been fulfilled, said Girdhari Lal and announced that the strike will continue till all their demands are fulfilled.
