New recruits of Maratha Light Infantry enter Indian army

BELGAUM, Mar 30: The attestation parade for the 178 recruits of the Maratha Light Infantry was held here today in an impressive parade at Regimental Centre here today.

The recruits successfully completed their training and will soon be going to different parts of the country in the service of nation.

The parade was reviewed by Maj Gen Chandra Shekhar, Commander, Junior Leaders Wing, The Infantry School,  Belgaum.

The oath taking ceremony was held in the presence of the National Flag and Regimental colours. The young soldiers took oath to serve their motherland and to protect its integrity even at the cost of their lives, a defence department press release said.

Maj Gen Shekhar, in his address reminded the new recruits of their rich heritage of Maratha regiment and asked them to follow the footsteps of Chhatrapati Shivaji  Maharaj.

He expressed confidence that their training in the Regimental Centre would stand them in good stead.

The parade was commanded by Sepoy Sudhir Patil with Parade Adjutant being Capt Amit Singh Panwar. Overall Best Recruit Medal was awarded to Sepoy Amol Sakhalkar,

Honorary Captain Keshav Rao Talekar Medal and Trophy for best in Drill were awarded to Sepoy Sudhir Patil. Maj SS Brar Medal and Trophy for best in Physical Training was awarded to Sepoy Shankar Kakatkar.   For best in Field Craft Training the Colonel NJ Nair, Medal and Trophy was awarded to Sepoy Sachin Pawar.

Sucha Singh Memorial Cup and Medal for best in Out door activities was awarded to Sepoy Dhanaji Jadhav. Sepoy Manojkumar Chavan was awarded Naik Namdev Jadhav Medal and Firing Trophy for being best in firing.

A host of Army officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, Other Ranks and families of the newly attested recruits were present to witness the parade, which was followed by tea for the newly attested soldiers and all audience. (UNI)
