CEC reviews traffic regulation in Leh town

LEH, Mar 30: To ensure timely regulation of traffic movement and strict implementation on traffic rules in Leh town, the Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Rigzin Spalbar today took an important meeting to see ways and means for further possible improvement in this regard.
The CEC issued instructions to the district administration and the Police Department not to be lenient in any case and urged to maintain a strict traffic management system in Leh town for larger public interest.  He also asked the administration to identify more parking places in and around Leh town and initiate measures for acquiring the land on rent.
On this occasion, the Addl Superintendent of Police, Leh P Sonam presented a broad traffic plan carrying some concrete solution to the traffic problem of Leh town.
A number of decisions in this context were  taken which included  complete ban on entry of  heavy vehicles of both civil and army into the town during the day time, charging of Rs 50 as parking fee for small vehicles for whole day in Leh town, charging of Rs 10 for small vehicles upto 3 hours, shifting of all motor mechanic shops from the main road, restriction on using the adjacent road for parking by the hotels, creation of divider in Skalzangling market for smooth traffic flow and imposition of ban on dumping construction materials on roadside during the day time.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner, Leh Tsering Morup, Dy SP Leh Abdul Khaliq, heads and representatives of Hotel Association, Travel Association, Taxi Operator’s Union, Merchant Association, Ladakh Tour Operators Association, Engineers of different wings of PWD, Police Officers and concerned district officers attended the meeting.
