98 bovine animals rescued, 7 smugglers arrested

UDHAMPUR, Mar 2: Chenani Police foiled a major attempt of bovine smuggling and rescued 98 numbers of cattle, which were being smuggled to Kashmir in five trucks and two Tata Mobile vehicles.
Giving details, SSP Udhampur Rajiv Pandey said that based on some reliable information regarding illegal transportation of bovine animals, a police party led by SHO Chenani, Insp Paramjeet Singh, under the supervision of Rajinder Singh Katoch, Addl SP Udhampur and Santokh Raj Deol, SDPO Chenani, laid a naka at motorshed and intercepted seven vehicles bearing registration numbers JK16A- 0412, JK14B- 4657, JK21A -9587, JK21- 3451, JK18A- 4995, JK03G- 4122 and JK14F 4096.
During search, 98 bovine animals were found illegally loaded in these vehicles. All the bovine animals were rescued and driver of the vehicles were also arrested on the spot.
The arrested smugglers were identified as Aqib Shafi son of Mohd Shafi of Ganderbal, Riaz Ahmed son of Mohd Iqbal of Ramban, Liaqat Ali son of Noorani Chauhan of Anatnag, Raj Mohd son of Saif Ali of Chak Manga, Samba, Abid Hussain son of Mohd Ramzan of Anantnag, Wani Attar son of Abdul Rashid of Anatnag and Fajji son of Noor Hussain of Roundomail, Udhampur.
All the seven vehicles were also seized and a case in this connection was registered at Police Station Chenani under relevant sections of law.
