Parents in distress, demand evacuation of children stranded in Iran

SRINAGAR, Mar 4: Parents of students stranded in Iran today said that their children are in distress and want to come home amid coronavirus outbreak in the country which consumed scores of lives.
The parents assembled in the Press Enclave and urged the Government of India to initiate steps in order to make sure that all the Kashmiri students presently in Iran are brought back without any further delay.

“Our students who are pursuing various courses in Iran should be evacuated immediately before it is too late,” said Bashir Ahmad, a parent whose ward is studying Medicine in Iran
The parents said that nothing positive has been done with regard to evacuating their children. “The matter is highly sensitive in nature. We have requested all the authorities who are at the helm of affairs, but till date nothing positive has come out,” they said.
They said that the Iran authorities have given clear cut directions to the countries whose citizens are in Iran to, if they wish, evacuate them. “UAE has evacuated their citizens, and it is now the Government of India which has not yet taken the call,” they said.
They said that the students feel mental agony and are frustrated as of now as they remain confined to one place. “We are requesting the Ministry of External Affairs to take steps to evacuate the students,” they said.
They said that their wards are not able to move out of their accommodation and the situation is turning out to be full of panic. “We are requesting those who are concerned with the issue to evacuate the students as they are distressed, they are not able to move out of dormitories. There are chances that the matter if not taken on priority may prove fatal,” they said.
