JAMMU, Mar 5: People blocked Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for several hours today to protest against the suspicious death of a truck driver in south Kashmir.
According to the reports, a truck driver namely Partap Singh of Jhajjar Kotli area of Jammu district was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Khudwani belt of Kulgam district on Wednesday.
Today people, including truck drivers and several relatives of the deceased, assembled on National Highway at Domail and blocked the vehicular traffic for several hours by keeping the body in the middle of the highway and staging a sit-in protest there.
Alleging that Pratap Singh was murdered in Kashmir, they demanded a high-level probe into his death by a special police team and adequate compensation as well as one Government job to the family of the deceased. The protest and blockade for over five hours led to a heavy traffic jam on the highway.
Civil and police authorities including SP Rural Suram Singh reached the spot and assured protesters of a thorough probe into the death and taking up their demand of compensation and Government job for the family with the concerned higher authorities, only after which they cleared the road to allow resumption of the traffic.
