It is a travesty that in a fast developing city like Jammu, there is nowhere a swimming pool with all weather facility . At best, wherever there is one, it is running only for six months of summer season . Let us not talk of other places, the one under the administrative control of the Government of Jammu and Kashmir , swimming pool at MA Stadium even could not be made all weather operational all these 27 years since it was provided for sportspersons and even others. In other countries , if there is any attraction of particular hue during autumn and winter months, it is the comfortable enticing warm water in swimming pools where people like to spend more time in swimming and remaining active .
How much does it cost in providing heating system for it , not much? Even the need thereof would have been felt only to lesser extent had an effective and cheap solar heating system been provided as even during winter months , we have sufficient sunshine. In other words, arranging heating system with the help of electricity, diesel etc would have been to the minimum if side by side, an effective solar heating system would have been erected there. For that, making this pool indoor rather than in the open as at present, is important. Funds are provided by the Central Government , help in acquiring equipment and other infrastructure required for the purpose too is available but what is not available is the will to do something at the local level. Would the Union Ministry of Sports and the UT Government take a note of it and convert the swimming pool at MA Stadium into the one operational throughout the year ?
