JAMMU, Mar 11: Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) today appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for reviewing of ‘Reorganisation Act, 2019’ to grant eight Assembly seats to the Displaced Persons (DPs) from Pak Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in 1947, before the delimitation process is initiated.
They raised the demand in a meeting, organised under the leadership of JKSAC president, Gurdev Singh..
Addressing the meeting, Singh stressed upon the Central Government to review the act to accommodate DP’s in the legislature structure of J&K so that they could also represent their aspirations.
He said that the DPs were continuously pitching for de-freezing eight assembly seats besides other components such as adequate compensations, reservation and employment package recommended by many Commissions time to time and particularly the Joint Parliament Committee report submitted in Parliament on December 22, 2014.
He further said that they have high hope from the BJP and were assured many time by various leaders that their share of seats would be granted to them along with other rehabilitation components but their hopes were not materialised after the passage of the Act, where only seven seats were increased to raise the Assembly seats from 83 to 90 but forgotten to defreeze eight seats of their share.
He said that the DP’s have been crying for the last seven decades for de-freezing of eight seats out of 24 of their share and expressed hope that their share of seats would be de-freezed under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister and Home Minister.
Other prominent who spoke during the meeting included Nater Parkash Sharma, Master Jagdish Singh, Subadaar Mohinder Singh and Bhajan Singh.
