NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Industries Nitin Gadkari said on Thursday that the government is making continuous efforts to provide employment opportunities to women in rural areas, thus making them self reliant.

While replying to supplementary questions during the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, the Minister said that several schemes have been launched by his Ministry to uplift the women which have yielded  good results. The Institute for Design Of Electrical Measuring Instruments (IDEMI), an autonomous body under the Ministry, has facilitated the networking of women start-apps, entrepreneurs, investors, incubators, mentors, students and enterprise facilitators to create awareness about government schemes, for which ‘Sakhi’ Portal has been set up, he said.

A total of 2012 women have benefited from this portal. As less women than the target have benefited through this portal, in future it is likely to add a large number of women.

Several schemes are being worked out in his ministry to promote small scale industries, in which solar spinning has yielded very good results, Mr Gadkari said.

All the members, he said, should implement these schemes to promote small industries in their respective areas so that maximum employment opportunities are available in rural areas. (AGENCIES)
