JAMMU, Mar 31: Reiterating resolve of his party to set up a new system to justice and equality in Jammu and Kashmir, patron of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today regretted that the State has been plunged into morass and political instability due to the wrong policies being propagated by the present National Conference-Congress regime during the last more than four years.
“It is a historical fact that whenever National Conference and Congress entered into political alliance for enjoying power, the State of Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed such chaos, confusion, anarchy and instability”, Mufti said while addressing an impressive public meeting in border town of R S Pura.
He referred the infamous 1987 rigged Assembly elections which resulted into spurt of militancy and beginning of an era of bloodshed and destruction in State. “What is happening after formation of National Conference-Congress Government in 2008 is very much visible before all of us”, he said and pointed out that during the last four years corruption has crossed all limits and the Government, through its deceit tactics, has brazenly eroded sanctity and credibility of all democratic institutions.
He said prevailing chaos and uncertainty in the State was result of the failure of the present regime to connect itself with the common masses. “From the day one when this Government was formed, there is instability and uncertainty in the State”, Mufti said and made a reference towards remark of Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) which pointed out, after the bloody summer unrest in 2010 that claimed lives of more than 120 innocent youth, that trust deficit and Governance deficit as main reasons of alienation of the people of J&K.
He termed the present regime as worst ever corrupt Government in the history of Jammu and Kashmir. “Although the corruption has been sneaked into the Government from top to bottom, the anti-graft institutions like State Accountability Commission (SAC) have deliberately been made non functional by the State Government”, he observed.
Mufti said that PDP during its tenure had proved to how to deliver good governance and how to establish transparency and accountability in the governance. “I don’t want to praise myself but people of the State are now comparing our achievements with the decades long mis-governance of successive National Conference regimes”, he said and added that PDP led regime in the State had established a system of governance which earned credibility and acceptability of the common masses.
Stating that Jammu and Kashmir has become a victim of trust deficit between people of the State and rest of the country, he asserted that PDP, through its policies and programmes would remove this trust deficit. He said that PDP led regime to some extent had removed that trust deficit through its work.
“After formation of PDP led coalition regime we fulfilled all the promises which we had made with the people and it was all due to the policies being propagated by our Government that situation has been changed in the State. “From Kathua to Kargil people have been peacefully living on border”, the former Chief Minister said and pointed people of R S Pura were very much aware about the situation which was prevailing before 2002 on the borders.
PDP patron also demanded one time settlement of the demands of 1947 refugees from Pakistan occupied Kashmir.
Rangil Singh, Trilok Singh Bajwa, Yash Pal Sharma, MLC, Ved Mahajan, Bhushan Dogra, Rajinder Singh Manhas, Chatter Singh Saini, Ashok Jogi, Gurmeet Singh Bajwa, Balbir Singh were among others who spoke on the occasion.
