NEW DELHI: The Opposition in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday created a ruckus and staged a walk-out on being denied permission to raise a supplementary question related to the official language of Hindi.
When members of the Opposition, including Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Congress and All India Trinamool Congress, were disallowed from asking supplementary questions during Question Hour, they created a ruckus near their seats and staged a walk-out.
Amid the commotion, Congress Member Rahul Gandhi said the issue was in the heart of every individual of Tamil Nadu, so they should be allowed to ask supplementary questions.
At this, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said Hindi is spoken in most parts of the country but there will be no tampering with the mother tongue of the states.
Hindi will not be forced upon any state. It is nice to see that the language is being used in a lot in non-Hindi speaking states.
As soon as he said that Hindi is also used partially in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the DMK and some members of the Congress started an uproar. The members started demanding supplementary questions on the subject, which when denied, they walked out of the House. (AGENCIES)
