JAMMU, Mar 19: A mortar shell fired by Pakistan army today landed in Jarnaili Mohalla near the BJP office in heart of Poonch town but didn’t explode averting what could have been a major tragedy even as heavy mortar shelling continued for about two hours in Degwar sector along the Line of Control (LoC) for about two hours today.

Reports said a long range mortar shell fell at Jarnaili Mohalla in Poonch town this afternoon but didn’t explode. A major catastrophe was averted as shell landed in the crowded area near the BJP office.
SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral said the Bomb Disposal Squad of Army and police rushed to the spot and defused the mortar shell safely.
Panic gripped the people of town as the mortar shell fired by the Pakistan army landed in Poonch town.
However, life returned to normal after the mortar shell was successfully defused.
Meanwhile, Pakistan army resorted to mortar shelling and firing in Degwar sector on the LoC this afternoon. The Indian Army retaliated effectively silencing the Pakistani guns.
An Army soldier Pintu Ghosh was injured in Pak shelling and has been hospitalised.
