JAMMU, Apr 2: Hartal for three consecutive days in Shopian due to detention of youths under Public Safety Act figured in the Assembly today after which Minister of State for Home Sajjad Kitchloo said he would take up the matter with the IGP Kashmir.
CPM MLA MY Tarigami raised the issue of arrested youth in Shopian during Zero Hour in the Assembly. He said there was hartal in Shopian for three consecutive days due to detention of three youths under Public Safety Act.
“What the youths would learn in jail?’’ he asked.
Responding, Mr Kitchloo said some youths were arrested if their name figured in the incidents of stone pelting repeatedly.
“If there was no check on the youth, we can face problems. However, if some innocent persons have been arrested, I will speak to the IGP Kashmir,’’ he added.
Independent MLA Engineer Rashid sought the release of Hurriyat Conference spokesman Aiyaz Akbar on the ground that his wife was suffering from cancer.
