CCI demands tax exemption on blankets

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Apr 2:  Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) has demanded that blankets of all kinds should be exempted from VAT  as the  State falls in the cold region and blankets are used by the common man.
In press statement  issued here today president of the Chamber, Y V Sharma said  that  the Government has claimed that the blankets up to the value of Rs 300 should be exempted from VAT. Reacting  to the meeting  with  Mr  Rather, Mr Sharma  said that this meet should have been held earlier, before the provisions of the budget were implemented.
However, he  conveyed his feelings that the Finance Minister was receptive and systematic  to the suggestions of the CCI.  Mr Sharma said the Chamber welcomes two clarifications that the tax proposals are an ongoing process  and can be recinded, modified and even changed at any time after discussions and meetings.
He said that the Chamber welcomes the announcement of Finance Minister that efforts would be made not to detain the goods at Lakhanpur, besides fully computerization of Tax Department in due course of time and deploying officers of great honesty and integrity to address the grievances of the people. The Chamber was confident that due attention would be paid to address all the pending issues raised by the CCI leadership in near future.
