DGP, ADG Security, several deputations call on Governor

JAMMU, Apr 2: Director General of Police, Additional Director General of Police (Security), Natrang Director Balwant Thakur and delegations of National Mazdoor Conference and All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association today called on Governor N N Vohra at Raj Bhavan.
DGP Ashok Prasad accompanied by Farooq Khan, Director She-e-Kashmir Police Academy, Udhampur called on Mr Vohra this evening and briefed him about the functioning of the Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy and details of the various training courses being run by the Academy.
They were calling on the Governor in connection with the next batch of Dy Superintendents of Police, which is passing out on 4th April where the Governor is the chief guest. The Governor also reviewed the internal security situation in the State with the Director General of Police.
V K Singh, Additional Director General of Police (Security) also called on Mr Vohra. During the meeting, the Governor discussed several important matters pertaining to security management in the State, with particular reference to the arrangements to be made for the two pilgrimages to the Mata Vaishno Deviji and Amarnathji Shrines.
In meeting with Balwant Thakur, the Governor discussed measures which are required to be taken for the preservation and promotion of the traditional art forms prevalent in the villages surrounding the Holy Shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Deviji as well as in the neighbouring districts.
The Governor reviewed the to-date status of the project which was launched last year by the Shrine Board for preserving and showcasing heritage and rare art forms in the villages surrounding the Shrine as a part of its social responsibility activities. He also discussed the modalities for establishing a Cultural Heritage Centre at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Spiritual Growth Centre at Katra to showcase the cultural heritage of the area by organizing photographic and audio and video presentations and live shows by the artists on week ends for the benefit of the pilgrims and the people at large.
A delegation of the All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association also called on Mr  Vohra and presented to him a memorandum of demands.
The 10-member delegation led by Inderjeet Khajuria, President of the Association, complimented the Governor, who is Chairman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, for taking various initiatives to bring progressive improvements in the facilities for the Yatris visiting the Shri Amarnathji and Shri Mata Vaishno Deviji Shrines, providing insurance cover of rupees one lakh to all the duly registered Shri Amarnathji pilgrims and making it obligatory for every Yatri to Amarnathji to secure a Health Certificate before applying for issue of Yatra Permit.
The delegation presented a cheque of Rs one lakh to the Governor as a token contribution of the Association towards providing support to the needy pilgrims.
The demands presented by the delegation included augmenting facilities for Shri Amarnathji Yatris at Bhagwati Nagar and enroute from Lakhanpur to Banihal and enhancing quota of helicopter bookings to the Association for Shri Amarnathji Yatra.
Other demands projected by the delegation included developing Jammu as a tourist destination, taking measures for development and beautification of entire Tawi belt from Bhagwati Nagar to Nagrota from tourism point of view, widening of Jammu-Suchetgarh road and promoting border tourism, speedy implementation of Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex project and installation of a cable car between Mubarak Mandi and Bahu Fort and Mahamaya hill top.
The Governor gave a patient hearing to the delegation and assured that the issues raised by them would be taken up with the concerned authorities.
An eleven member delegation of the National Mazdoor Conference met Mr Vohra and presented to him their demands.
The demands presented by the delegation led by Subash Shastri, President, National Mazdoor Conference, included, constitution of the 7th Pay Commission, providing interim relief to the employees and pensioners, merger of 50% DA in the basic pay and pension, enhancement of Medical Allowance from Rs 300 to Rs 1,000 per month in favour of the State Government employees and pensioners and filling up all available vacancies in the various departments in the State.
Other issues raised by the deputationists included amendment in SRO-64, regularization of all daily rated workers who have completed seven years of service, issuance of regularization orders of 180 daily wagers working in the Rural Development Department in Jammu region before 1994 and removal of pay anomalies of various categories of State employees, particularly clerical cadre.
The Governor heard the deputationists patiently and observed that he will take up the issues raised by them with the Finance Minister and Chief Minister.
