JKPCC shows concern over poor sanitary conditions

JAMMU, Mar 31: District Congress Committee, Jammu expressed its concern over poor sanitary conditions in the Jammu city as the Covid-19 pandemic hovers over the world.
Yogesh Sawhney, former Minister and General Secretary JKPCC, in-charge Jammu Urban, said the areas of Jammu are filled with garbage heaps with no proper disposal mechanisms, adding that heaps of garbage can be seen at different lanes of the old city as well as the Gandhi Nagar area.
“At some places, overflowing and un-cleared bins with garbage strewn all around is a common sight,” Sawhney said
Another critical scenario, the DCC stressed, was the health facilities in Jammu.
“Jammu requires the attention and funds from our MPs. Testing laboratories need to increase, proper equipments and ventilators are required specifically for Jammu region, health facilities need to be enhanced keeping the present situation in mind,” DCC added.
Stating that MPs from Kashmir had invested their funds in Kashmir locally, while MPs from Jammu had invested their funds in the Prime Minister’s Care Fund, Sawhney said that these MPs should consider the needs of Jammu people and make them a top priority.
“Poor sanitation harms people’s health, their well-being and we cannot afford that now. Lack of adequate sanitation must be big concern for the J&K administration. Even after reaching out to the concerned authorities in Jammu regarding this pressing issue, there aren’t any visible changes or results,” expressed Sawhney.
The former Minister pointed out that the administration is only helping on a “pick-and- choose” basis in this regard.
“People with enough accessibility and approach are able to get sanitation services in their areas but those who can’t are left behind. The entire city needs equal consideration. The sanitation drives being organised aren’t making any difference, perhaps are only meant for eyewash of the public because major areas which suffer from poor sanitation are left out,” maintained Sawhney.
