Usha Vohra releases book on women development

First Lady Usha Vohra and JU VC Prof M P S Ishar releasing a book at Jammu University on Wednesday.

JAMMU, Apr 3: Usha Vohra, First Lady, released a book titled “Women and Development: Self, Society and Empowerment” at a function held at the Jammu University here today.
This book, the Foreword of which has been written by the First Lady, has been jointly edited by Prof. Posh Charak, Director, Centre for New Literatures, Culture and Communication, Jammu University, and Prof. Chandra Mohan, Advisor, International Higher Education, Central University of Gujarat, Gandhinagar.
Speaking on the occasion, the First Lady observed that women empowerment is a much deliberated subject and the Government of India is doing all that it can in all spheres, to improve the status of women in society. Emphasizing the role which the civil society has to play in securing the objective of women empowerment, she said that it is for the civil society and one and all to get together and see what we can do for improving the lot of women.
Mrs Vohra observed, “said we can not say that emancipation in the West has brought us all the good things of life that we needed”, “given our cultural past, we have to evolve on our own, being particularly sensitive to what is good for us. There can not be any copy book style which we can adopt. Every country is unique and every country has a unique culture”.
A memento was presented to the First Lady on this occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. M P S Ishar, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, threw light on various aspects of women empowerment and thanked the First Lady for releasing this book.
Prof. Hemla Aggarwal, Principal, Government College for Women, Parade, Jammu, presented a detailed review of the book, describing it as a well researched and well documented volume.
Prof. Chandra Mohan, Co-editor of the book, giving details said that the book contains 23 articles on varied aspects of women empowerment. He said some of these are the papers which were presented during the workshop organized in the Jammu University about three years ago while others are write-ups which were invited for publication in it.
In her welcome address, Prof. Posh Charak spoke about the aims and objects of bringing out this book.
Prof. B. N. Verma, Chief Executive, Primus Books, New Delhi, presented Vote of Thanks.
Faculty members, intellectuals, research scholars, students and prominent persons were present on the occasion.
