LEH, Apr 3: The Councilor Chushul Namgyal Phunchok has demanded early opening of an LPG distribution centre at Chushul village in Durbuk block.
In a letter addressed to Veerapa Moily, Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural Gas, the Councilor explained that Chushul is the last village on the Indian frontier with China in Durbuk block of Leh district having about 170 households and it is also the largest village in Durbuk block surrounded by villages like Maan, Merak, Spangmik, Khagstet, Satto, Kherapullu, Kargyam, Chibra and Barma. The people of these villages including Chushul have to travel over 100 Kms to refill empty LPG cylinders from the nearest outlet at Tangtse as a result, the semi- nomadic grazers of the above villages have to suffer additional hardships during the harsh winter when roads are blocked due to heavy snowfall.
The letter requested to open new LPG distribution centre at Chushul village, which will not only help the villagers for easy access to the benefit of LPG cooking but would also cut down the price of transport charges on cylinders tremendously.
