JAMMU, Apr 3: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Mir Saifullah today said that all the genuine daily wagers/casual labourers engaged in the Power Development Department would be regularized within a period of two months.
This was announced by the Minister in reply to the Calling Attention Notice of CPM MLA, Mohd Yousaf Tarigami wherein he drew the attention of the Government towards inordinate delay in release of wages in favour of casual labourers of PDD across the State and resentment over non-regularization of their services.
In the meeting held in the month of February last year under the chairmanship of Minister of State for Power, it was decided that all the 4000 genuine daily wagers of the Power Development Department would be regularized and even budget provision was kept for the same but till date nothing has happened, Mr Tarigami said.
While replying to the query on behalf of the Minister Incharge Power, Mir Saifullah informed the House that following this decision the Power Development Department was asked to furnish the details for necessary exercise. “During the exercise the figure about number of daily wagers was found inflated and several un-deserving names were also found in the list and this led to delay in the completion of exercise”, he added.
“Now, the exercise has almost been completed and the genuine PDP/TDL of the PDD would be regularized within a period of two months”, Mr Saifullah said, adding “so far as other workers are concerned, due process may be initiated and necessary orders will be issued after completion of verification”.
“The Government is also considering the eligibility, genuineness of such daily wagers/casual labourers to whom the payment has to be made”, he further said, adding “the Government will scrutinize the documents to ascertain the eligibility of such casual labourers according to the guidelines issued from time to time”.
