4 doctors quarantined in Handwara

SRINAGAR, Apr 5 : Twelve persons tested positive in Kashmir for COVID-19 today taking the number of Novel Corona positive cases in the Valley to 85 out of whom two died and two have recovered.
Those who tested positive today include a 14-year old boy from Cheki Mohanpora, Budgam, 38 year old woman Abida Parveen W/o Rouf Ahmad R/o Uri, Baramulla, 8-year old, 12 year old and 14 year old from Sultan Deki, Uri who are daughters of already COVID-19 positive and 11 year old girl from Uri whose father is also COVID-19 positive, a 60-year old man from Guzhama in district Ganderbal, a man from Kashpora, Bandipora, 50-year old man from Memandar Shopian who is admitted at District Hospital Pulwama, 51 year old woman from Palpora Shopian, admitted at District Hospital Pulwama, a 21 year old girl from Jawahar Nagar Srinagar and 70 year old man from Hawal in Srinagar.

Dr Naveed Nazir Shah told Excelsior that so far one person has been declared as recovered as he has tested negative for both the tests that are to be carried out as per the guidelines.
He also said that there are 7 more patients who have tested negative in the first test that has been carried out. “We have to carry out the second test as well and once they come out as negative, we will then declare them recovered,” he said.
Dr Mohammad Saleem said that at GMC laboratory out of 82 tests conducted today 4 tested positive. “Two each of these samples were received from JLNM Hospital Rainawari and District Hospital Pulwama. The test report of 82 samples that were received today is awaited”, he said.
As per the figures available, 287 cases have been admitted to SKIMS out of which 257 have been discharged. The hospital has 24 positive cases that are undergoing treatment there.
The total number of suspected patients in Quarantine Ward at SKIMS after their test report came back as negative is one, while as the number of patients discharged is 257.
As far as those people who were admitted today at SKIMS—suspected COVID-19 patients and whose tests are yet to come is four, while the Microbiology Lab of the institute has conducted 483 tests so far.
And authorities today declared six villages in Bandipora district as “Red Zones” after six people tested positive for Coronavirus in these areas.
The villages are Konan, Gund Qaiser, Gund-Dachina, Hakbara, Madwan and Pethkote, all in North Kashmir district.
Six more villages were declared Red Zones and their surrounding villages as Buffer Zones in the Bandipora district to prevent spread of coronavirus after six persons from these villages were declared COVID-19 positive in past two days.
District Magistrate, Bandipora, Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza said that in view of the six positive cases reported from these villages, it became imperative to initiate restrictive measures under Section 144 of CrPC for prevention of danger to the human life, health and safety.
Under the order issued by the DM, there should be no outward or inward movement of any individual for any reason in these villages, the spokesman said.
The DM has also directed law enforcing agencies to implement the prohibitory orders in letter and spirit to save lives and warned of strict action against violators.
Director Health Services Kashmir Sameer Mattoo said the Directorate is imparting specialized trainings to the 52 lab technicians who are undergoing training at the JLNM Hospital. They have been directed to study the Red Zones and Buffer Zones and launch the mass contact tracing. The staff has been equipped with the PPEs and designated mobile vans for contact tracing.
“Earlier, we were able to collect 70 samples, now we go for up to 150 a day,” he said. “We have so far got seven sophisticated machines for testing and we will be again procuring few more,” he said.
Four doctors were sent for quarantine in Handwara after they had monitored a COVID-19 patient in the hospital.
The patient tested positive on Saturday was having fewer, cough and other symptoms. The four were taken into quarantine where they are being monitored.
In the meantime, lockdown across Kashmir continued for the 18th day today with authorities acting tough against the violators of Government orders issued to prevent spread of Coronavirus.
Police and paramilitary troopers were deployed on roads and they had erected concertina wire to block the roads to prevent movement of people and vehicles.
Police today arrested five shopkeepers in Srinagar for defying Government lockdown orders on Coronavirus.
Police Station Panthachowk booked two shopkeepers who were found violating the orders imposed by District Magistrate u/s 188 CrPC. A case (vide FIR numbers 16/2020 and 17/2020 under relevant Sections of law) has been registered in Police Station Panthachowk and further investigation into the matter has been initiated.
Police Station Soura booked three shopkeepers who were found violating the orders imposed by the District Magistrate.
In Handwara, police today arrested 21 persons for violating lockdown orders. Police Station Handwara registered a case against 12 violators and took up investigation. Police Station Qalamabad booked 5 persons for violating the prohibitory orders over Coronavirus. Police Station Vilgam arrested four persons for violating the lockdown orders.
