HC directs police to produce case diaries about missing youth

SRINAGAR, Apr 3: High Court today directed police to produce case diaries and investigation report about a missing person’s case whose name figured in security force inputs of him being an active militant.
Justice Hasnain Masoodi while admitting a written petition filed on behalf of one Farida, mother of a missing person Shoukat Ahmad Paul, directed the police to produce case dairies and investigation report of an FIR 8/2005 in Police Station Kothi Bagh, Srinagar.
The Court has asked SHO, Police Station Kothi Bagh to present the case dairies of the FIR in the court on April 10. It may be mentioned here police maintains that they have failed to trace Shoukat’s whereabouts whose missing report was lodged in Police Station Kothi Bagh.
The FIR was registered in Police Station Kothi Bagh, Srinagar in 2005 on the directions of Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar. The FIR says that Shoukat Ahmad Paul of Lawaypora went missing on June 23, 2003 after he had gone to Amar Singh College, Srinagar where he was studying in BA final year. The family alleges that Paul was picked up by army from Partap Park area of Srinagar.
Parents of Paul say that after reports appeared in some newspapers about their son being an active militant, security agencies started harassing them. Paul’s mother Farida after being apprehensive about the safety of her missing son Shoukat’s in security forces custody approached the High Court for relief.
