JAMMU, Apr 10: J&K Dairy Farmer Producer Organizations (JKDFPOs) have highlighted the problems being faced by the community dealing in milk trade.
In a handout JKDFPOs stated that there are over 4000 milk producer members affiliated with it which are formed with the initiative of NABARD and other Government agencies.
Vikrant Dogra on behalf of dairy JKDFPOs stated that majority of milk producers in the J&K are from Doodhi Gujjar community and many others including ex-servicemen who have taken dairy farming as livelihood.
He said, in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic the demand of milk has been drastically reduced and the milk producers are forced to sell their produce at a very low price.
“Also the milk processing industries are buying milk at a very low rate and at its own terms,” he further said adding that a propaganda to defame milk producers to has been floated in society for not buying milk from a particular community which is a matter of concern.
Dogra demanded ban on milk import from other States for the period of lockdown to help local milk producers. He also demanded compensation for milk producers for losses incurred during the lockdown period.
Dogra assured that all the JKDFPOs members will be trained by Kirshi Vigyan Kendras and other agencies on basic hygiene required for dairy farming so that public at large should not fear to consume milk from local milk producers.
