JAMMU, Apr 12: Senior Congress leader, Raman Bhalla today continued ration distribution to the needy families at Bahu Fort and its adjoining areas in Gandhi Nagar constituency.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla said that the lockdown triggered by COVID-19 pandemic has affected the livelihoods of daily wage earners.
“The Government should plan to give unemployment benefits to contract and temporary workers who have lost their jobs temporarily due to the lockdown,” he said adding that the employers should not fire their employees or lower their wages due to the lockdown as it would deepen the crisis.
The Congress leader stressed on maintaining social distancing and termed it important in the battle against the pandemic.
Bhalla urged the administration to ensure that every needy person, local or outsider, gets food at their doorsteps.
All poor, labourers, beggars and other needy individuals should get food as and when required”, Bhalla asserted. He said that ration shops should remain open everywhere and there should be free distribution of ration and other essential items to the needy people during lockdown besides the authorities should also facilitate smooth transportation of vegetables, fruits, medicines and food grains across J&K.
Bhalla also said that the district authorities must enforce the implementation of guidelines and directives as set forth by the Centre for nationwide lockdown.
