JAMMU, Apr 12: In a rarest incident, a woman delivered a child inside the police van while on her way to the hospital during the ongoing lockdown here in the Channi Himmat area.
As per police sources, during the intervening night of April 11 and 12, a distress call was received from Police Control Room Jammu that a woman namely Sonia Devi, wife of Raj Kumar, a resident of Birache, Uttar Pradesh, at present Sector Number 3, Channi Himmat Jammu is pregnant and suffering from labour pain.
Due to ongoing lockdown, there was no mean of transportation to reach the hospital.
Acting swiftly on the information, a team from Police Station Channi Himmat under the supervision of SHO Inspector Parvez Sajad, SDPO East Bikram Kumar and SP South Vinay Sharma, reached the spot to rush the woman to the hospital in a police van.
On way to the hospital, the woman gave birth to baby in the van and after giving first aid to her, she was shifted back to her residence.
The locals appreciated the act of J&K Police during ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
