Coronavirus cases close to 250 in J&K

17 positive for COVID-19 in Kashmir, tally jumps to 197

SRINAGAR, Apr 12: Seventeen more people today tested positive in Kashmir for COVID-19 taking the number of people infected by Coronavirus to 197.
Among them include seven from Kupwara, four from Baramulla, three from Ganderbal, two from Bandipora and one from Kulgam district of Kashmir.
Out of seven from Kupwara who tested positive are three men from Tangdhar including 76-year-old, 30-year-old and 25-year-old, who had attended a religious congregation, recently at Nizamuddin in New Delhi. They were traced and put under quarantine.
The four other are contacts of 23-year-old COVID-19 patient from Muqam-e-Shahwali and include his 58-year-old father, 73 year old grandfather, 60-year old maternal uncle and 11-year-old sister.

The four persons who tested positive in Baramulla include 15-year-old girl from Solinda Tangmarg and 25-year-old woman from Kathpora Tangmarg, both contacts of the previous patient. The two other cases include 38-year-old man from Maharajpora Sopore and 48-year-old man from Wagub Sopore.
The three who tested positive in Ganderbal include a COVID-19 positive person’s 40 year old daughter, 60 year old sister and 65 year old brother-in-law.
The two positive cases from Bandipora are 55 year and 40 year old women who are contacts of a previous Coronavirus positive man.
Another man from Kulgam’s Damhal Hanjipora area tested positive. He is a contact of a man who attended religious meeting at Nizamudin.
From the time the first COVID-19 case was announced in J&K on March 9, it took about three weeks for the cases to reach 50-mark. It took the next five days for the cases to double to cross 100-mark and next five days to cross 200-mark.
51320 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance who include 9153 persons in-home quarantine including facilities operated by Government, 433 in Hospital Quarantine, 235 in hospital isolation and 29718 under home surveillance. Besides, 11777 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period. So far 3355 samples have tested negative in J&K and 245 positive.
And around 70 contacts of Pallar Budgam ‘Faith Healer’ who tested positive yesterday have been identified, while as the process of tracing the rest who had a contact with him is on.
The health officials in the district told Excelsior that they have identified around 13 primary contacts, while as the rest are secondary contacts.
They said that the person being a faith healer was posing a great challenge to the district machinery in tracing all those who met him over the period of time and might have caught the infection.
“We are on it, and by Monday we will be ready with the list of people and will trace them down,” the official said.
And the lockdown across Kashmir continued for the 24th day today with authorities acting tough against the violators of Government orders issued to prevent spread of Coronavirus.
Police and paramilitary troopers were deployed on roads and they had erected concertina wire to block the roads to prevent movement of people and vehicles.
The Red Xones declared by Government were totally sealed and no movement was being allowed in these areas.
And Police in Ganderbal, Srinagar arrested seven persons and seized three vehicles for defying the COVID-19 restriction orders.
In Ganderbal, police arrested three tipper drivers and seized their tippers. In Srinagar, police have arrested four persons for defying the restriction orders.
Police have once again requested the general public to follow the restrictions imposed by Government in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and those who are violating the restriction orders will be dealt strictly.“
